Earth Report: Basically Harmless - Douglas Adams

The last book in the series The Hitchhiker's galaxy, and that's only because Douglas Adams died before completing the sixth installment, which is a shame. A friend I met on the network died last week, week that he had actually begun thinking about death, two separate conversations he had with various people about the "life? after death. Deaths and all our projects simply disappear, stay in the air. Everything we did on our own not come to light again. The mood of the galactic hitchhiker may have continued, but was cut short by the death of its author. fundamentalmente-inofensiva This blog itself, probably not survive much to my own death, either because it gets to the end of the payment for the domain name or hosting. Only confirms the crushing remark that "nothing is forever".

Abstract

This book has a flaw, and it is quite fragmented. Adams keeps track of Trillian in a parallel universe, keeps track of Arthur that roams the galaxy and has lost Fenchurch, and he keeps track of Ford Prefect who returns to the publisher of the Galactic Hitchhiker's Guide charge for the cost of the report on the land they wrote. But much has changed with the guide, including who was acquired by another company, which has a hidden agenda to it.

Opens with the beginning of space travel, when nothing traveled faster than light, with the exception of bad news. From the start, prompting the mobilization of such long distances were the wars and trade. In the case of war, he became the crew (and hosts) in suspended animation and were sent to be awakened when they reached their destination, some two or three million years later. Usually, the reasons that prompted the war were gone, but the warriors fogocidad usually not, so two million years later, there would always be a reason to start a new war.

One of these aircraft experienced an accident that makes it fail for whatever it was prepared, with the result that the crew (and military) is awakened on an unknown planet, far from the closest star to receive heat by such means , and no idea who they all are or what is supposed to do, because their consciences were stored in the damaged part of the ship.

As I said at the outset, we have to alternate Trillian, Tricia McMillan in the alternate universe that returned by the portfolio when Zaphod invited her to go into space, with the result that the impatient Zaphod left without her. She is a reporter in his native England, but wants to get a job in New York, where she traveled for two interviews, one with an astrologer who will ask how the discovery of a tenth planet in the solar system alters the astrology, and the second from her with a New York television station that is looking for an English accent for editing. Tricia down to the hotel bar to search for the astrologer who visit the interview later, but leave the bag in the hotel room and, having learned not to return for the bag, low without it. During their conversation is interrupted by a driver to take you to the interview with the New York television station, but in a not to return for the bag does not, and his interview with the television is in for a disappointment because he can not even read the teleprompter for not having his contact lenses which were in her purse. There he learned that sometimes it must go back for her purse.

Arthur, meanwhile, continues to travel across the galaxy next to Fenchurch, who one day simply disappears during a trip. And she continues to wander the universe from planet to planet and from system to system, until their ship crashes on a lonely planet and it happens to be the only survivor. It is in this place until it is found by Trillian, with surprising news. So shocking to the reader as for Arthur.

Ford Prefect by her side, realize that something strange is happening with the editor of the Galactic Hitchhiker's Guide, and with the help of a robot after a disturbance, which always made him happy, does venture into areas of the building to which not even know existed, and each time have the certainty that something strange is happening. After a couple of adventures she escapes from the building, apparently guarded by Vogon more corporate-looking. Before escaping, it sends itself a copy of the new guide in which the company operates, and takes credit card with which he has been appointed as a food column writer, an appointment which Ford plans to pay dearly their new employers.

The copy shall be sent to the direction of Arthur, where he leads a quiet life, which envelops them again in an adventure that takes them to ride on dangerous animals, to discover his estranged King in seclusion, and back to Earth where the "prophecy" of Agragaj take place. Agrahaj is a person who met in the previous episode in the series, which captures Arthur to avenge this, because in each of its many incarnations has been killed by Dent, or it has been near death when it occurs.

Comments

For work (the last 15 days have been quite busy) it took me a little more in this book than the previous ones. In the whole series, I'll take the third book as my favorite. I'm with Marvin as the favorite character, which unfortunately was no longer in the latter part, and I stay with completely contradictory statements as true heart of this series of books. It is a pity that the series is over, but as I said at home ... Nothing is forever.
